At Frexy, we really love icon design. In the past few months, me and Vu Tran have worked on an icon set called “Bright!”, and today, we happily release Bright! as a freebie for you.

Brief description

Bright! is a crisp, sharp and beautiful set of 148 hand-crafted icons in vector format, ideally for both web and print work. You can use Bright! for personal and commercial projects at free of charge. What I only need in return is your comments and backlinks, if possible.

Agreements

By downloading this icon set, you must agree with the following terms:

Do not redistribute or sell any icons of this set.
Do not provide the direct download link nor upload Bright! onto other servers for your own share (Please link to this article instead - I deserve some traffic!).If you want to spread the words, just link to this article.

P. Miller 18 May 2008: Don’t know what I am doing wrong, AI CS2 and PS CS2 could not open the files in a proper way. Something about missing shadows :-(

Min Tran 18 May 2008: @P.Miller: the icons were designed in Illustrator CS3 and I export back to AI 10 compatible file. Everything displays properly in AI CS3 for me. Could you please send me the screenshot?

@Sam S: I bet that you can open and edit Bright! using Illustrator 10/CS1/CS2/CS3.

vlado 19 May 2008: looks great, but not everybody has illustrator… why dont you simpy make PNGs of these so everybody can use it?

Min Tran 19 May 2008: @vlado: Exporting to bitmap format in different sizes needs a lot of time , so vector format is the best for the time being. Another reason why they’re not in PNG, GIF, ... is I want the icons to be editable and scalable.

I have tried in illustrator cs1 but i get this

never seen that before, but normail i can open in photoshop ai files

Min Tran 19 May 2008: @Sam S: that error might occur since i used some effects only supported by CS3/CS2. Sorry for this inconvenience. I’m working on the more compatible version and it will be uploaded soon.

The current download link is EPS file, and I’m pretty sure that you can open it using AI 10 or higher.

As I said above, you can edit it, do anything with it for either commercial or personal work, include the work for your clients. But do not distribute the original icon(s) or modified icon(s) of this set and release it as free/paid icon(s) under your license. Is it clear? As long as you use these icons for your own work, it is ok. If you want to distribute or sell these icons under your license or your name, it’s not ok.

Thanks for your reply. I do use a download manager. But with the heavy rains we’re having here, network speed is down to a trickle so a 26MB download is going to take a pretty loooooooong time. 7z compression could make the package smaller still but I guess I’ll have to download in bits.

Thanks man, great work.

Thought about putting a download for a open standard vector like .svg to it. Even if some effects get lost, it´s usability won´t depend to Adobe products?

@Scherbe: there’re many vector applications support EPS, so I think it doesn’t depend on Adobe products.

@bird yoshikawa: I didn’t advertise it on Smashing Magazine, and SM didn’t advertise it for me. They just featured it because they think it’s good. I don’t feel right with the word “Advertise”.

It’s not available at this time due to the bandwidth/traffic issue. It was available for download, and will be available again soon.
